Bendtner punished because of flashing his branded “lucky pants” after scoring against Portugal

So, at the last year’s football European Championship in Ukraine, Denmark striker Nicklas Bendtner has been banned for one competitive match and fined €100,000 for showing his sponsored underwear versus Portugal.
The player revealed a logo of one of his friends’ betting company on his underpants during the celebration of his second goal in the 3-2 loss against Portugal on June 13.
When questioned afterwards about the incident, Bendtner said: “It is just a pair of lucky boxer shorts that I used in the first game as well and have used before the tournament. I didn’t know I was breaking any rules but I am aware of that now.”
So, 100,000 plus a game. Pretty good price for a few seconds of advertising, but (almost) the whole world saw it. What do you think, was it worth it?

Yesterday, after FC Barcelona’s Argentine-born football genius, Lionel Messi has broke Gerd Müller’s record of scoring 85 goals in one single calendar year, Adidas tweeted this picture in honor of their two superstars.
Does Adidas need better advertising than both Messi and Müller are/was users of its products?

Chelsea FC Players Fight Giant Alien Invaders
Four Chelsea FC players teamed up with the club’s official betting partner, 188BET, to fight off an invasion of giant aliens from space, with only their silky footballing skills as weapons.
Nicolas Anelka, Branislav Ivanovic, David Luiz and Paulo Ferreira all tackled four levels of the 188BET exclusive Alien Invaders game. A 90’ computer game set in a warehouse, literally hours from demolition, played host to the Chelsea stars’ attempts to blow up as many invaders as possible.
Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka eventually triumphed over his team-mates and was crowned the winner - picking up a cheque for the charity of his choice.

My favourite football team, FC Barcelona have been awarded the title of ‘Superbrand’, an honour also held by global brands such as Google, Coca-Cola etc.
The selection process for Superbrands 2011 included a Council of Experts, consisting of a selection of accredited professionals from the world of marketing and branding, carrying out their activity in prestigious companies, business associations, universities, Business schools and publications sector.
